Bandar Khairan is a chain of fjord-like coves cut into the rocky coast just southeast of Muscat, and along with the Shangri-La Al Waha beach further south, it has become the launching point for Oman's emerging electric hydrofoil scene. Oman Observer's March 2025 feature on the rise of hydrofoiling in Oman documents local centers offering lessons and equipment rentals, and the Shangri-La's watersports concession runs hydro-sports including foil-assisted craft from its own protected bay. Independent eFoil schools are still thin on the ground compared to Dubai, so most riding here is by visiting eFoil owners and resort guests rather than walk-up rentals. The payoff is empty water. Bandar Khairan's coves are dead-glass on most mornings, water sits at 24-30 C, and you can ride for hours without seeing another motorized craft. Royal Oman Police Coast Guard registration is required for any motorized craft, including eFoils, and visitors should ride with a local operator who can handle paperwork and launch permissions. Khareef monsoon affects Salalah and the Dhofar coast June-September but barely reaches Muscat — October through April is the prime window, with the Shabaki Sharqi easterlies adding light chop in the afternoons.
