About this spot

Pucon is built on the eastern shore of Lago Villarrica, a 21km-long volcanic lake in Chile's Araucania Region. The town's adventure-tourism economy (rafting, kayak, kite, ski in winter) means eFoil-capable infrastructure is straightforward, and the lake itself is well-suited: Playa Grande in town, Playa Trancura and the quieter coves toward La Poza give easy launches, while the open basin toward Villarrica town on the western shore catches the classic Patagonian summer thermal — W/SW 10-20 knots building through the afternoon. Mornings are reliably glass. The lake sits adjacent to Parque Nacional Villarrica (administered by CONAF), so commercial guided activity requires CONAF authorization; personal recreational eFoils are accepted, with the active Volcan Villarrica volcano (last significant eruption 2015) providing the dominant southern skyline. Combustion PWCs are restricted in several lake zones for noise and water-quality reasons — electric foils benefit from this regulatory tilt. December through March is the operating window.

Typical conditions

A 176km2 Andean lake with the Volcan Villarrica looming over its south shore. Summer thermals build W/SW 10-20 knots most afternoons; mornings are often glass. Water 14-19 C in peak summer; wetsuit recommended.
