About this spot

Reykjavik fronts the wide Faxafloi bay with the Old Harbour, Harpa waterfront and the Sundahofn cargo port forming the city's working coastline. Riding zones sit east toward Videy island and north along Grafarvogur, where the bay is sheltered from the prevailing southwesterlies by the Reykjanes peninsula. Water is cold year-round (8-11 C even in July) and Icelandic small-craft rules require lifejackets and registration for commercial craft. Best windows are short and weather-dependent, mid-June to early August, with a 5/4 wetsuit and hood essential.

Typical conditions

Strong and variable winds 12-25 knots, often shifting through the day. Cold North Atlantic water year-round; cleaner conditions sit east of the harbour toward Videy.
