About this spot

Siargao is best known as the Philippines' surf capital — Cloud 9 — but the island's southwest side around General Luna has a network of inner reef lagoons and the protected channels around Daku, Guyam, and Naked islands that work for foiling on calm-water mornings. The water is clear, depths run 2-5m over sand inside the lagoons, and the offshore islets give you reference points and wind shelter. Avoid the surf zones at Cloud 9 and Jacking Horse — these are working lineups and motorized craft are not welcome. Siargao's climate is wetter than the rest of the Philippines, with rain possible any month; the driest stretch is March through May, and typhoon-season tail-end weather can hit September through December. Local boatmen run boat-supported eFoil and wing-foil sessions out of the General Luna pier area; the operators here are surf-trained and tend to be conservative about wave-zone access, which is the right instinct on this coast.

Typical conditions

Surf-island east coast with reef passes; protected foiling on the inner lagoons around General Luna and Daku Island. Wet most of the year — driest March-May.
