About this spot

Punta Mita is the rocky cape that closes off the north end of Bahia de Banderas, about 45km north of Puerto Vallarta. Inside the point — Playa Anclote and the protected coves toward El Anclote pier — water stays bay-flat with light morning offshores and gentle 8-15 knot afternoon sea breezes; the outside, around the El Faro lighthouse and out to the Marietas Islands, picks up clean Pacific groundswell that's foilable on smaller days. Water temperature is reliably 24-29 C, and unlike Baja, Punta Mita sits south of the Norte pattern so winter fronts rarely affect it.

Typical conditions

Bahia de Banderas's northern headland with multiple coves — Anclote and Sayulita Bay sheltered, El Faro outside catches Pacific swell. Light morning offshores year-round; afternoon sea breezes 8-15 knots. Water 24-29 C, no Norte exposure.
