About this spot
Armacao dos Buzios sits on a finger of land that pokes northeast into the Atlantic 170km from Rio. The geography is the whole story: with beaches on both the north (Manguinhos, Rasa, Tartaruga) and south (Geriba, Ferradura, Ferradurinha) shores, riders can move to the leeward side in 10 minutes whenever the wind shifts. Praia da Ferradura is the standout — a near-circular bay with a narrow mouth that filters out swell while letting the NE trade fill, producing chest-deep flat water across most of the cove. Buzios has an established marine-leisure economy (charter sailing, kite, SUP) so eFoil rentals and battery support exist through several operators on the Rua das Pedras side. Marinha do Brasil regulations apply — eFoils sit below the 25hp Arrais-Amador threshold, but the Capitania dos Portos do Rio de Janeiro patrols the bays, and respecting swimmer zones (marked by yellow buoys at Ferradura and Geriba) keeps things clean. Avoid the Pedra do Frade headland and the Joao Fernandes channel during peak summer weekends when boat traffic is heaviest.
