About this spot

Koh Rong sits about 25km off Sihanoukville in the Gulf of Thailand and offers the most foilable water in Cambodia: long sandy bays on the east coast (Koh Touch, Long Beach/Sok San is on the west) with minimal reef inshore, light wind during the November-April dry season, and very low motorized-craft traffic. The island is small, the regulatory environment is informal, and there is no established eFoil rental scene as of recent reporting — this is a bring-your-own-kit destination or one that requires arranging through a Sihanoukville-based mainland operator who will boat across. May through October brings the SW monsoon with regular squalls and reduced visibility; the working window is genuinely six months. The island's east-facing bays are the calm side; the west coast catches more swell when the monsoon turns.

Typical conditions

Gulf-of-Thailand island with calm sheltered bays on the east side. Driest November-April, squally rainy May-October. Sand bottom along main beaches; bioluminescent plankton in protected coves.
