About this spot
Mui Ne is the long sand bay running east from Phan Thiet on Vietnam's south-central coast, and it has been the country's kite-surf and wind-sport capital for over fifteen years for one reason: the thermal NE trade fills in almost every afternoon between November and April, blowing 15-25 knots cross-shore with metronomic reliability. That makes it a working coast for wing-foiling and downwind eFoil sessions, less so for glassy morning beginner work — though early mornings before the wind builds do give calm water if that's what you want. The bottom is sand throughout the main beach east of the village, with occasional rocky outcrops at the far east end near the fishing village. The May-October SW monsoon is the off-season — wind drops, swell direction changes, and most of the kite schools shut their water sports operations and switch staff to other coasts. The bay sees significant Vietnamese fishing-fleet activity at dawn and dusk; the round basket-boat (thuyen thung) fleet works the inshore lane and you should give them a wide berth. Several eFoil operators have set up alongside the established kite schools in the central beach segment. Note the local jellyfish presence in shoulder-season months (April-May, October-November); long-sleeve impact suits are the local norm.
