Three-kilometer sand beach on Phuket's west coast with the cleanest dry-season foiling water on the island and an established watersports operator scene.

Bang Tao is a three-kilometer arc of sand on Phuket's northwest coast, running from the Laguna resort complex south to the Surin headland. Unlike Patong, the bay is not lined with jet-ski touts and tow operations, and unlike Kata or Karon it has a gently shelving sand bottom with no reef heads to worry about. The dry season runs November through April under the northeast monsoon, when offshore-component winds and small swell give glassy morning sessions and predictable midday onshore breeze; this is the working window for foiling. Launch from the public access at Bang Tao village near the Layan end, north of the Laguna lagoon outlet. The SW monsoon flips conditions May through October. Wind and swell go onshore, the red-flag swim warnings come out across Phuket's west coast, and rip currents form on Bang Tao's outer bar — most operators close their water sports for the season. Phuket has an active marine police presence enforcing the post-2018 jet-ski code (mandatory pre-rental video documentation of board damage, designated boundary buoys), and while eFoils are not classed the same as PWC, you should brief any operator carefully and stay inside the 200m swim-zone buoys when launched. Two Phuket-based eFoil schools currently operate sessions out of Bang Tao and nearby Layan during the dry months. Note: Thailand's PWC restrictions in the Krabi-Phi Phi marine national park area do not extend to Phuket's west coast, but the regulatory environment is dynamic — confirm with your operator.
Long, gently shelving sand beach with calm dry-season mornings November-April, building onshore SW monsoon May-October. Bottom is sand throughout — no reef hazards along the main beach.
