Denarau is the purpose-built resort island bolted to the west coast of Viti Levu just north of Nadi airport, and it's where almost every Fiji eFoil session starts. The bay is sheltered by the Mamanuca chain offshore, the bottom is sand-and-silt rather than coral, and the trade-wind chop that builds outside is largely knocked down by the time it reaches Denarau Marina. That makes the inshore strip an unusually forgiving learner zone for the South Pacific — you can crash repeatedly without taking skin off on reef. Fiji's dry season runs May to October with steady SE trade winds (12-18 kt afternoons typical) and is the workhorse window for the sport; the wet season (November-April) brings cyclone risk, heavier rain and turbid post-storm water. Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) registration applies to motorized craft and any commercial operator needs a Fijian operator licence — the operators clustered around Denarau Marina handle this, and going through one is the cleanest path for visitors. Several Denarau-based watersports concessions run eFoil rentals and instruction, and Denarau is the natural ferry hub for accessing the Mamanuca outer-island sessions where the water sharpens up.
