Calm, glamorous bay sheltered by the Lérins islands — ideal for beginners and cruising sessions on the Riviera.

The Bay of Cannes is one of the calmest stretches of the French Riviera, sheltered to the south by the Lérins islands (Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat) and tucked away from the Mistral that batters the coast further west. Water tends toward glassy mornings and a light afternoon thermal breeze, which is exactly the profile beginners want for their first foiling sessions. Launch options run the length of La Croisette, with public beaches between Palm Beach and the Vieux Port, plus easy water access from the Plages du Midi just west of the harbor. The 5-knot limit in the 300 m coastal strip is taken seriously here given heavy yacht traffic, so most foiling happens just outside that line — toward the Lérins or eastward off Pointe Croisette. The season runs long on this microclimate-blessed coast: May through October all deliver rideable conditions, with July and August adding superyacht traffic and prices to match.
Generally calm; sea breeze (brise thermique) builds afternoons; Lérins islands shelter from southern swell; Mistral rare this far east.
