Tahiti — Papeete & Punaauia

Tahiti is the arrival point for almost every Pacific itinerary, and while it doesn't have Bora Bora's photographic claim it's by far the easiest island for gear logistics, with shops, repairs and rental boards actually available. The west coast from Papeete down through Punaauia and Paea is the eFoil zone: a continuous lagoon protected by a barrier reef sits roughly 200-800 m offshore, with a wind-shadowed strip behind it that runs flat through the trade-wind afternoons. The PK 18 area at Punaauia is the established launch, with sand-bottom shallows, a long lagoon shelf to cruise, and easy parking access from the ring road. As a French overseas territory, French Polynesia's DDPMM registration framework applies to motorized craft and the standard 5-knot/300 m inshore rule is enforced in the populated west-coast strip — Papeete harbour itself is closed to recreational motor craft and the cruise-ship/ferry traffic is heavy enough that you should stay south of the airport. Reef passes (the Taapuna pass especially) carry strong outgoing currents and shouldn't be crossed casually. Best season is the May-October dry season with steadier SE trades and lower humidity; November-April brings cyclone-risk variability and heavier rain. Several Punaauia-based watersports schools rent eFoils on the lagoon, which is also the simplest path through the registration question.
