Mallorca's longest sandy bay — more exposed than neighbouring Pollença but with reliable thermal wind and miles of open water.

Alcúdia Bay is the wide, north-facing arc that stretches roughly 12 km from Alcúdia's old town in the north to Can Picafort and Son Serra de Marina in the south, separated from Pollença Bay by the small headland at Mal Pas. Unlike Pollença, the bay is open to the north and northeast, which makes it considerably more exposed when the Tramontana or a Mistral pulse pushes down from the Gulf of Lion — swell wraps in and chop builds quickly. On settled days, however, it offers the most usable open water on Mallorca: the shallow sandy gradient continues 200+ metres offshore at Playa de Muro and Platja d'Alcúdia, the bottom is forgivingly clean, and the predictable midday Embat fills in reliably from May through September. The northern end near Alcúdia town and the Es Barcarès stretch is the calmest and the practical launch zone for eFoils — rental fleets, school boats, and watersports concessions are concentrated there. Playa de Muro in the middle is wider and emptier but watch for the marked swimming areas in summer; launches must be from the designated nautical corridors. The southern end at Can Picafort gets noticeably more exposed and is intermediate territory when any north component is in the wind. Cross-bay runs from Alcúdia to Can Picafort and back (around 20 km return) are a popular intermediate touring distance. Best months: May–September. June and September deliver the best combination of warm water, thermal reliability, and tolerable crowd levels. Avoid October–April: the Tramontana season is unforgiving on this exposure and storms build serious swell.
Long open north-facing bay; thermal Embat picks up to 12–18 kt afternoons May–Sep, exposed to NE swell when Tramontana blows.
