Sheltered horseshoe bay in Mallorca's north — the island's best flat-water classroom for beginner foilers.

Port de Pollença sits at the head of the bay of the same name, tucked behind the Cap de Formentor peninsula on Mallorca's north coast. The peninsula acts as a natural windbreak against the Tramontana — the cold, dry northerly that can blow 30+ knots over the rest of the island in spring and autumn — leaving the inner bay calm when nearby Alcúdia and the open north coast are unworkable. The water at the head of the bay is famously flat and shallow, sandy-bottomed, and the village beach (Platja de Pollença) and the long stretch toward Llenaire offer waist-deep wading 50–100 metres out, which is why the bay is the default destination for windsurf and kite schools' beginner clinics. For eFoiling specifically, the calm inner bay is ideal for first-time riders and progression — the typical pattern is glassy water from sunrise until the afternoon Embat (sea breeze) fills in around 1–2pm, peaking at 10–15 knots and dropping by evening. Avoid the central swimming area off Llenaire and the marina entrance near the Club Nautic; head south toward the quieter Platja de Sant Joan or northwest along the Boquer shoreline for cleaner runs. Faster, more open conditions develop near the mouth of the bay toward Cap de Formentor — intermediate territory and exposed to swell when the Tramontana actually breaches. Best months: May–October. June and September are the sweet spot — warm water, dependable thermals, fewer swimmers. July–August brings dense beach crowds and a strict swim-zone enforcement: launches from designated watercraft corridors only.
Horseshoe bay sheltered from the Tramontana by Cap de Formentor; light onshore Embat in afternoons, frequent flat-water mornings.
