About this spot

The Exuma chain stretches roughly 130km from Highbourne Cay south to Great Exuma, a thin string of low cays separating the deep Exuma Sound from the shallow Bahama Banks. eFoil activity here is almost entirely yacht-based — charter boats out of Nassau or Georgetown deploy eFoils at flats anchorages off cays like Staniel, Compass, and Big Major. The flats themselves are a near-perfect riding environment: knee-to-waist-deep sand bottoms running for kilometers, light easterly trades broken by the cays, and almost no boat traffic outside the main thoroughfare. The critical operational note is the Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park, which covers a 35km stretch of the central chain and enforces no-take, no-anchor-on-coral, and zoned restrictions on motorized craft. Riders should confirm their planned launch sites are outside park no-motor zones, or ride south of Compass Cay where the park boundary ends. Outside the park, settlements like Staniel Cay and Black Point have no formal eFoil schools, so this is a BYO-board venue or a charter add-on. December through May is dry season with the most settled weather; January-February cold fronts can push north winds that briefly disturb the lee anchorages. Hurricane season June-November sees most charter traffic stand down, and the Exumas have taken direct hits in recent years.

Typical conditions

Iconic Bahamian flats and cays running 130km north-south. Most eFoil use is yacht-based; the Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park enforces strict no-take and motorized-craft restrictions.
