Reef-protected bay on the DR's north coast with reliable morning glass-offs, established watersport infrastructure, and easy launches from Kite Beach.

Cabarete sits on the Dominican Republic's Atlantic-facing north coast, where an offshore barrier reef tames the open swell and creates a roughly 2km crescent of protected water between Kite Beach and the main town beach. The bay's reputation as a wind-sport capital means there's a dense cluster of board sport schools, board storage, and rinse facilities along the sand — the same infrastructure that supports kiteboarding and wing foiling makes eFoil sessions logistically simple. Mornings are typically glassy until the thermal trade builds around 11am, giving riders a clean window for learning runs before the bay turns choppy. The NE trades blow 15-25 knots from December through April, and while that's prime kite season, eFoil riders should plan early starts or use the lee behind Punta Goleta on windier afternoons. Reef heads come up shallow on the outer edge of the bay — stay inside the breakers and away from the marked channel used by kite launches. Local schools run instruction from the western end of Kite Beach, where sand-bottom shallows give beginners a forgiving start zone before progressing into deeper turquoise water. Hurricane season runs June through November with peak risk August-October; while direct hits on the north coast are less frequent than on Hispaniola's south side, swell events and tropical waves can shut the bay down for days. The shoulder months of May and November often deliver the most consistent eFoil conditions of the year — lighter trades, warm water, and far fewer windsport crowds.
Trade-wind bay protected by an offshore reef, with thermal winds building most afternoons from December through April. Morning glass-offs offer the cleanest eFoil windows before the chop sets in.
