Denmark's capital fronts the Oresund with city-edge launches at Refshaleoen and the long protected lagoon at Amager Strandpark.
Copenhagen's eFoil activity centres on three zones: the harbour itself around Refshaleoen and the new sauna piers, the artificial lagoon at Amager Strandpark, and the open Oresund toward Charlottenlund and Hellerup. The Amager Strand lagoon is fully sheltered and 2-4 m deep over a sand bottom, making it the standard beginner zone, while the open Oresund exposes riders to working ferry lanes between Copenhagen and Malmo plus the Helsingor-Helsingborg route further north. Water is brackish, around 17-19 C in July and August, with low swell but consistent short-period chop in any wind above 12 knots. The Copenhagen harbour is technically navigable for small craft but the Inner Harbour bridge zone, the Royal Library waterfront and the cruise terminals at Langelinie are off-limits — Refshaleoen's east side and the channel south past Lynetteholm are the practical riding zones. Watch for the Copenhagen Harbour Bus, which runs frequently between Nyhavn and Refshaleoen, and the high-speed catamaran ferries to Aarhus and Oslo departing Nordhavn. Denmark's small-craft rules require all powered watercraft to keep at least 50 m from bathing zones and 200 m from manned beaches during summer. Commercial eFoil operations need a permit from By & Havn (the harbour authority) for the inner harbour and from the relevant municipality for Amager Strand. Most local schools launch from Refshaleoen's east jetty or the lagoon's south end. Peak season runs late May through early September, with reliable sea-breeze afternoons and water warm enough for 3/2 wetsuits by July.
