The Santa Barbara coast faces almost due south, tucked behind the wave-blocking arc of the northern Channel Islands. The result is a stretch of California shoreline with markedly smaller swell than Ventura or San Luis Obispo, often only 1–3 feet, with the cleanest morning glass between sunrise and 11am. A westerly sea breeze typically fills in to 10–18 knots in the afternoon, easing again by sunset. East Beach in front of the Santa Barbara Cemetery and the harbor gives a long, lifeguarded sandy launch with parking on Cabrillo Boulevard, while Goleta Beach a few miles up the coast offers an even more protected put-in beside the pier with restrooms and a grass park. Water sits between 58 °F in winter and 68 °F by August, and a 3/2 wetsuit is comfortable year round. Keep clear of the harbor entrance traffic and the marked swim zones. California DMV registration of the eFoil and a California Boater Card for operators 16+ apply, and the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary boundaries lie offshore but do not extend to these beach-launch riding areas.
