About this spot

The Inner Oslofjord splits into Bunnefjorden and Vestfjorden at Nesodden, with the city sitting at the head of both. Riding zones include the Bygdoy peninsula, the Aker Brygge waterfront (subject to harbour rules), and the open water between Hovedoya, Lindoya and the Nesoddtangen ferry terminal. Bottom is rocky and steep — the inner fjord drops to 150 m within a few hundred metres of shore — so depth is rarely a concern, but launching means using marina slips or public jetties. Wind is the limiting factor: the fjord is sheltered by surrounding hills and reliable thermals only build on warm summer afternoons, typically southerly at 6-12 knots. Mornings and evenings often go glassy, which is excellent for beginners. Watch for the Nesodden, Drobak and Bygdoy passenger ferries on dense schedules, plus the DFDS Oslo-Copenhagen and Color Line ships entering and leaving Vippetangen — stay 200 m outside the marked fairways. Norway's small-craft regulations cap speed at 5 knots within 50 m of swimmers, moored boats, and bathing beaches, which applies to eFoils everywhere on the inner fjord. Outside that buffer the standard 5-knot limit within 50 m of shore in many municipalities still applies (Oslo kommune enforces this on summer weekends). Commercial operators need a permit from Oslo Havn KF and most schools launch from leased slips at Bygdoy or Sjolyst. Peak season runs late May to mid-September, water hits 18-20 C in late July, and the long Nordic daylight gives 18+ hour usable windows in midsummer.

Typical conditions

Light to moderate southerlies 6-12 knots most summer afternoons, with sheltered conditions inside Bunnefjorden and cleaner fetch toward Drobak. Glassy mornings are routine.
