South-west Norway's oil capital fronts a sheltered fjord at Hafrsfjord plus the open Solastranden coast, with consistent Atlantic winds.

Stavanger sits between the sheltered Hafrsfjord (site of the Sverd i fjell monument) and the open North Sea coast at Solastranden and Borestranden. Hafrsfjord is shallow at 5-30 m over a sand and gravel bottom, perfectly flat in any wind, and connects to the open sea only through the narrow Hafrsfjordsundet — making it a strong all-weather option. The open coast 8 km west delivers consistent westerlies and modest North Sea swell for advanced riders. eFoil Riders Norway runs test sessions in the Stavanger area, and the local kommune permits commercial watersport operations under Norway's standard small-craft framework. The 5-knot rule within 50 m of swimmers and beaches applies on Solastranden during summer. Water sits at 14-17 C in July; expect a 4/3 wetsuit even in midsummer.
Reliable westerlies 10-18 knots from the open Atlantic, with Hafrsfjord giving a sheltered flat-water option and Solastranden offering clean coastal swell.
