South Oahu's deep, sheltered bay between Diamond Head and Koko Head — the island's busiest eFoil hub.

Maunalua Bay stretches roughly seven miles along south Oahu between Diamond Head and Koko Head, with Hawaii Kai sitting at its eastern end. The bay is deep, large, and sheltered from the NE trade winds by the Koko Head ridgeline, which is why it has become Oahu's most active eFoil and watersports launch — the bulk of the island's commercial foil operations are based around the Hawaii Kai boat ramp and Koko Marina. Mornings are typically the prime window: trades haven't filled in over the saddle, the bay glasses off, and Diamond Head sits on the western horizon. By afternoon a moderate trade-driven chop builds across the outer bay, and most riders pull back inside toward Maunalua Bay Beach Park. Winter (Nov–Mar) is the cleanest stretch overall — the bay faces south, so it's protected from the big NW winter swell that lights up the North Shore. Maunalua Bay has been the focus of significant reef and limu (algae) restoration work; rider awareness of where to power up versus drift is part of the local etiquette. Launch from the Hawaii Kai ramp or the beach park rather than dragging a board across reef flats.
Deep south-Oahu bay sheltered from NE trades by Koko Head; glassy mornings, building tradewind chop by midday; year-round ridable with winter the cleanest.
